Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her customary Yuletide celebration at the historic Abbey, with guests including royals, celebrities and local heroes who have helped their communities.

The 1,600 guests will hear a mix of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from actors such as Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Focusing on Kindness and Compassion

The central message of the concert, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

Attending the event are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose child passed away from a brain cancer, and who founded an organisation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a terminally ill child.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often discreetly and without words, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an extraordinary difference to the well-being of people," wrote Catherine in a note prior to the festive gathering.

Carefully Paced Reappearance

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own steady comeback to public life following her health challenges and treatment, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she talked about recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Performance and Potential

Guests arriving at the Abbey can listen to budding artists supported by the Future Talent organisation, set up with the help of the late Duchess of Kent to widen access to instrumental training.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who performs on the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been helped by the organisation, with grants helping towards instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "incredible" to be taking part in the evening's event.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," the musician remarked. She is now a student at the prestigious music academy, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to cultivate their performance abilities.

Generations Gathering

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who is a euphonium player, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Among the guests will be people from various age groups.

That will include Saphia Turner, aged nine, winner of a young hero award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to raise money for community pantries.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been decorated with specially made wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Among the musical performers will be singer Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a nautical singing ensemble, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "a dream come true."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be televised and shown on a major network on Christmas Eve.
