Christantus Uche Fuels Comfortable Crystal Palace Win at Irish Side Shelbourne.
Even though embarking on their maiden European campaign, Crystal Palace are adapting very quickly. Without star figures like forward Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the London club left Dublin with a comfortable win that all but guarantees them a place in the Conference League qualifying rounds.
Another victory in their next match against Finland's KuPS should be enough to secure straight passage to the last 16, especially following a previous stumble against Strasbourg.
Squad Members Seize the Opportunity
This occasion provided a chance for some of Palace's fringe talent to shine. Christantus Uche, making only his second beginning after arriving on loan from Getafe, opened the account with a clinical finish. Forward Eddie Nketiah added a another, finding the net for the second consecutive match.
A Shelbourne side that had finished their league season proved outmatched against a mostly rotated Palace outfit. The visitors were further weakened by the news that Mateta and Muñoz are out with leg injuries.
Control Established from the Outset
Despite heavy rain in Dublin, Palace rapidly established dominance. A flowing move in the 11th minute, initiated by Daichi Kamada's clever pass, allowed Nketiah to set up Uche for a simple finish.
Midfielder Adam Wharton came close minutes later, driving a long-range effort over the bar. Nketiah subsequently appealed for a penalty after racing into the area, but the referee dismissed the appeals.
Ex-Arsenal striker did not have wait long to get his goal, tapping home from close range after Uche's shot had struck the post.
The home side were clinging on desperately. Defender Kameron Ledwidge was lucky to escape a booking for a couple of robust tackles on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards struck the crossbar with a powerful header from a corner.

The match was as good as over eight minutes from half-time. Yeremy Pino weaved past some weak challenges before coolly dispatching a shot past keeper Wessel Speel to extend the lead to 3-0.
Following the break, coach Oliver Glasner seized the opportunity to rest key players like Kamada and Wharton. Substitute Romain Esse came close to scoring with his first touch, only to see his shot blocked.
Esse was desperately unlucky later on, seeing one attempt strike off both posts before being clasped on the line. Uche also blazed a glaring chance, indicating there is still scope for improvement in his game.
The only worry for Palace was a late injury to Justin Devenny, who limped off. This paved the way for 17-year-old striker Benji Casey to earn his senior debut, capping an otherwise perfect evening for the visiting side.
